Man kills his father, mother and two sisters in Yobe

A 28-year-old man, Adamu Mai Bisco, on Monday night allegedly killed his parents and two sisters in Potiskum, Yobe State. Police confirmed the incident. Spokesman Toyin Gbadegesin said the suspect used a shovel to kill the victims while they were asleep. “He was not provoked before carrying out the dastardly act.” The police attributed the suspect’s action to hard drugs. Gbadegesin said: “Bisco acted under the influence of hard drugs.” A source, however, alleged that the suspect killed his parents and siblings because they (parents) threatened to report him to security agents for allegedly being a member of the Boko Haram. In an SMS to our correspondent, the police spokesman said the offence was committed under Section 221 of the Penal Code. The message reads: “Culpable homicide contrary to Penal Code Section 221. The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun on Tuesday said the eventual removal of fuel subsidy is inevitable. According to him, the gradual removal of subsidy is necessary in view of emerging and current realities. Odigie-Oyegun said this when he received a delegation of the APC National Coalition for Peace and Mobilization which paid him a courtesy at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. Caution was thrown into the wind on Tuesday as supporters of the Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and the Majority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila engaged in physical combat over the constitution of the 96 Standing Committees of the House. It can be recalled that  Gbajabiamila shunned the inauguration of the headships of the committees during the special plenary and some of his supporters who had participated in the inauguration but latter went to the All Progressives Congress, APC, Secretariat to berate the Speaker for allegedly working against President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his main target for fighting corruption was to stop corrupt individuals from seeking to occupy public offices for selfish gains. This is even as he stated that his government would not relent in the current anti-corruption war, stressing it would continue to many years. According to him, the prosecution of alleged criminals would serve as a deterrent to others, stating that he was committed to curbing corruption, plugging all loopholes in public sector accounting and deploying available resources for the good of all Nigerians. The president spoke, Wednesday, during a meeting with members of the Nigerian community in New Delhi, India where he is attending the 3rd Summit of the India and African Nations. President Buhari also prioritized the recovery of looted funds, saying he was conscious of the devastating consequences of the illegal diversion of public resources meant for national development into private bank accounts.

David Mark laments poor electricity supply in Nigeria

Senate President, David Mark, on Friday, decried the epileptic power supply in the country in spite of promises made by investors in the wake of the privatisation of the sector. Mark, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, stated this while hosting the management team of the Electricity Management Services Limited in Abuja. He said, “In spite of the high expectations and promises on account of the privatisation of the power sector, Nigerians have yet to feel the positive impact of the sector.” He therefore charged operators of the industry to give meaning to the privatisation by making the sector work so that citizens can enjoy un-interrupted power supply. Mark noted that the snail-speed rate of development in the power sector does not give credence to the privatisation exercise and the expectations of Nigerians. He also challenged industry operators to get rid of quacks in the profession in order to give consumers quality services.

Supplementary Governorship Election: Okorocha wins re-election in Imo, Okezie Ikpeazu wins Abia

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Saturday secured the mandate of his people to govern them for another four years as he won the governorship rerun election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. Okorocha beat Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party by polling 416,996 votes while Ihedioha 320,705. The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Abia, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, however, won by beating Dr. Alex Otti of the All Progressive Grand Alliance with 248,459 votes to 165,406. The PDP’s Darius Ishaku of Taraba State was also coasting ahead of Sen. Aisha Alhassan of the APC going by the results that came in as at press time. For instance, in Kofar Sarki in Takum Local Government polling unit, the PDP had 588 votes against the APC’s 7. At Suntai Daaji in Donga Local Government Area, the PDP got 1,139 against APC’s 74. The President of Egypt, Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, has extended an official invitation to President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in order for the two African leaders to discuss how to strengthen the bilateral relations between both countries and the fight against terrorism. The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has pleaded with the APC lawmakers in Ekiti State to embrace the olive branch extended to them by governor Fayose in the interest of the development of the state. Jonathan denies spending ₦2 trillion on election campaign

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has denied spending N2 trillion for electioneering campaigns for his Peoples Democratic Party in the recently concluded general elections. The presidency stated this in an official reaction to a story published on Nigerian newspapers that Mr. Jonathan was concerned about how campaign funds were spent without the desired victory in the polls and has called for a probe. In stating the president’s stance, his spokesperson, Reuben Abati, told journalists in Abuja that “The President has not set up any committee as alleged in that story. INEC holds run off election in Taraba on April 25

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed April 25 for the run off of the Taraba governorship elections.
