After hours of battling for survival, a baby girl who was well dressed and abandoned by her mother in a biscuit carton near Eco Bank, along Ikot Ekpene Road, in Uyo has died.   It was learnt that the baby who was reportedly abandoned by her mother at about 11:30pm on Friday, died around 11:58am on Saturday after many hours of crying for help.  

There was mild drama and chaos on Monday at the Ibafo Police Division, Lagos state as armed robbers shot a security guard to death in front of the station. Eyewitnesses said policemen at the gate took to their heels and shut the gate to the police station after finding out it was armed robbers. However, a member of the Oodua People’s Congress identified as Kayode, was among residents who responded to the distress call of a couple abducted by the robbers in their Landcruiser SUV. The couple, Oluwakunmi Ayodeji, an engineer, and his pregnant wife, Oyin, were returning from a maternity centre behind the police station when they were attacked by the gang. Punch reports that a family friend of the couple, Bisola Olojede, said she escaped by a whisker. Olojede explained that she had taken the couple to the maternity centre where Oyin had a scan and they were leaving the centre for a hospital in Ikeja when the robbers struck. The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, has said that a 53-year-old woman has died of Lassa fever in the state. Ukpong who said this during the inauguration of a taskforce on the eradication of Lassa fever in Akwa Ibom in Uyo on Monday, said the state had so far recorded three suspected cases. He added that one of the suspected victims absconded while the third case happened to be a patient that was receiving treatment for HIV.
