The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun on Tuesday said the eventual removal of fuel subsidy is inevitable. According to him, the gradual removal of subsidy is necessary in view of emerging and current realities. Odigie-Oyegun said this when he received a delegation of the APC National Coalition for Peace and Mobilization which paid him a courtesy at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. He explained that the current administration inherited an “infected system of subsidy” run by corrupt cartels. A group of Muslim jihadist attackers who on Monday stormed a bus in Kenya were prevented from attacking Christian passengers on board by a group of Kenyan Muslims, the BBC has reported. According to the report, the gunmen were said to have ambushed the bus, attempting to divide those on board based on the passengers’ religious affiliations. However, the Muslim passengers reportedly refused to split. At least two people were killed. Speaking to members of the Kenyan press, a local government official said Muslim passengers on board the Makka bus line told the terrorists “to kill them together or leave them alone,” according to Kenyan news outlet the Standard. Men of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a commercial bus driver, Andy Ibojie, who was invited by a house boy to abduct his boss’ six-year old son. Ibojie, who hails from Delta State, said it was the houseboy now on the run that invited five of them to abduct the boy. He said the victim was taken from their residence in Okomu town, Ovia South West local government area of the state. They were arrested when they went to collect a ransom of N230, 000. He said, “We kidnapped the boy at Okomu. The boy who works with the victim’s mother sent us to kidnap him. I don’t actually know the reason why he said we should kidnap him but he led the squad and now he is nowhere to be found.” “The boy was working with the victim’s mother as house boy and he was the one that attached us to himself. The Federal Road Safety Corps has said it took efforts of security agents and residents to avert disaster after a tanker, which was fully loaded with petrol, fell on its side at Owode Bus Stop, Owode in Ogun State on Sunday. The Unit Commander of the FRSC in Sango-Ota, Mr. Leye Adegboyega, said the accident, which occurred around 3.45pm, was as a result of brake failure. He said, “A Mack petrol tanker with registration number MUS 422 XH was heading to Abeokuta from Lagos lost control due to brake failure, spilling some of its contents on the road.” Adegboyega said the FRSC officials, policemen and officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as those of the Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Agency, were all on the ground to secure the area and ensure the prompt removal of the tanker. A Nigerian woman has been sentenced to nine years in prison in the United Kingdom after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent. The London Evening Standard reported on Tuesday that the woman, Kenya Alozie, attacked her lover – a man in his 30s – while they were having sex at a house in Plumstead. The police told the Woolswich Crown Court where she was tried that the 31-year-old, who had no fixed abode, had attacked the man with a hot iron and a broken bottle in a violent and premeditated attack. According to the police, she had planned the attack beforehand by keeping a hot iron and broken bottle ready and using the iron to burn his legs and genitals and “crashing the bottle into him.” The LES also reported that the victim had to undergo surgery for some of the injuries he sustained in the attack. It added that the police said Alozie, whose visa expired at the end of May, had planned to return to her family in Nigeria after the attack and before the

Three staff of an online retail outlet, Konga, on Friday appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing 500 units of Infinix Hot2 mobile phone valued at N9.6 million. The men, Ibrahim Maradesa; 31, Oluwatoyin Salau; 41, and Jerry Idenudia; 27, who all reside at Ogba area of Lagos, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. The Prosecutor, Insp. Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 4, at about 6:00p.m., at No. 36, Cocoa Road, Ogba, Lagos. Unuigbe alleged that the accused stole 500 units of Infinix Hot2 16 GB12 valued at N9.6 million, property of Konga online retailer. According to him, the accused, who are drivers with the company, diverted a truck loaded with the items to an undisclosed destination. The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. Section 285 pr

Three European countries, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium on Thursday deported twenty eight Nigerians who were said to be living there without valid visas. Forty eight Nigerians were on November 25, in a similar way deported from the United Kingdom for various immigration offences. A source in the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, said twenty four of the returnees were repatriated from Italy and two each from Switzerland and Belgium. According to the source, the deportees are mainly males flown into the country in a Meridiana Fly aircraft, from Rome. The source also said the deportees arrived at the Hajj Camp area of the airport around 7.25pm and were received by Nigerian Immigration Services and other security agencies.

A former student who burned her lover’s genitals with a hot iron while they were having sex has been jailed for nine year by a UK court. Kenya Alozie, 31, of no fixed address, pressed the hot iron down on the man’s legs and genitals before slashing his hand with a broken bottle. The attack, which took place in May at a property in Plumstead, south east London, and left the victim needing surgery for burns and deep wounds. Alozie has now been jailed for nine years after being found guilty at Woolwich Crown Court of GBH. The court heard the attack took place while Alozie and the man, who was in his 30s, were having sex at accommodation where she was living with friends. At the time of the attack, Alozie’s student visa was due to expire and she was expected to return to her family in Nigeria a few weeks later. A young woman has allegedly committed suicide in a most brutal manner and for no known reason.   Rebecca Hardy, a young mother has 'killed herself' by climbing over a backyard fence and getting mauled by two dogs. According to local authorities, Rebecca Hardy died after suffering “severe facial and neck injuries” in the December 3 attack at a home in Port Huron, USA.
