Gunmen invade Kogi DSS office, policeman, attackers killed

A riot policeman and three other persons were said to have been killed in Lokoja, Kogi State, following the invasion of the state headquarters of the Department of State Services. It was gathered on Saturday that a band of gunmen, armed with with sophisticated weapons, at about 9.45pm on Friday, invaded the DSS office. A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the heavily armed attackers appeared to overwhelm the DSS operatives in a gun duel, prompting a Deputy Director of the agency, whose name is yet to be ascertained, to quickly put a distress call to the police at about 10. 40pm. It was gathered that patrol teams with combined efforts of the military men, who were later drafted in, engaged the invaders in a gun battle for over seven hours. The source said the security operatives later overpowered the attackers while some of the invaders fled into the bush. The Christ Embassy Church on Friday said it had about 10,000 children under its care as a way of getting them off the streets. Pastor Ciji Darah, the Warri zonal head of Christ Embassy made this known while briefing newsmen on the 2015 Reach Out Nigeria (RON) project of the church. Darah, who was represented by Mr. Yemi Morakinyo also said that out of the 10,000 children, 57 were adopted in Warri, pointing out that the ministry would continue to impact on the lives of the people through the spread of the gospel of Christ and other positive avenues. ‘’We have 30 million copies of Rhapsody of Reality to be distributed this year and in Warri zone we are going to distribute 2.5 million copies within a period of three months,’’ he said. Over 200 Boko Haram Members Reportedly Surrender To Military

Banki is famous as the centre of a growing international trade between Nigeria, Cameroun and other countries of the Central Africa. The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a short text message that the insurgents surrendered to the troops in Banki on Sallah day. “Over 200 Boko Haram terrorists have just surrendered to our troops in Banki.”   He said The Acting Army Spokesman, who described the development as unprecedented, said that the insurgents had run out of ammunition and other logistics and were in disarray. A 52-year-old psychiatric patient, identified as Tope Ogunmodede, has reportedly hanged himself in his house located at the Lafe area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Friday.   According to a source, it was suspected that the deceased, a cobbler, must have taken his own life out of frustration, following his health challenge, which he and his family had reportedly been battling with for the past 32 years. The source narrated that the deceased's family had spent a lot of money to treat the ailment without any fruitful result.   The deceased, who stayed in the same house with his mother, Mrs Comfort Ogunmodede, was said to be due for a check-up last Thursday but the appointment had to be shifted to Monday because of the public holiday.   The mother, whom Tope stayed with, was said to have discovered the lifeless body of her son hanged in one of the rooms in the house.   Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Wole Ogodo, stated

A huge stampede killed at least 717 people and injured hundreds more at the hajj in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, in one of the worst-ever tragedies at the annual Muslim pilgrimage. The stampede, the second deadly accident to hit the pilgrims this month following a crane collapse in Mecca, broke out during the symbolic stoning of the devil ritual, the Saudi civil defence service said. Bodies of pilgrims wearing traditional white clothing were left scattered by the crush, surrounded by discarded shoes, flattened water bottles and umbrellas that had been used for protection from the sun. The civil defence service said that it was still counting the dead, who included pilgrims from different countries, and that at least 863 people had also been hurt. Student caught at Lagos airport with 10.255kg of drugs hidden in garri

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Thursday arrested a student and four other suspected drug traffickers with 10.255 kilogrammes of narcotics at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA), Lagos. Speaking on the arrest, NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Ahmadu Garba said that the suspects were apprehended for their involvement in smuggling drug hidden in garri adding that two of the drug suspects were coming from Brazil with cocaine while three others were going to South Africa, Dubai and Pakistan when they were arrested. Mr. Garba further gave the names of those apprehended as "26 year old student Okonkwo Daniel Anagor, was caught with 2.810kgs of Tramadol on his way to Dubai, Lawal Monsuru Ademola, 33 year old trader was arrested with 3.310kgs of methamphetamine on his way to South Africa while Ogbonna Donatus Chigozie was caught attempting to smuggle 610 grammes of cocaine to Pakistan. Nigerian woman on holiday in America arrested for shoplifting

According to KMBC.com, Police reports states that Jennifer who was with two toddlers and an infant when she was arrested, hid 66 items in shopping bags and inside the stroller she was pushing through Macy's at Oak Park Mall. She has been charged with felony theft and ordered to hand over her passport. Jennifer was in court last Wednesday and her bail was set at $2,500. She was apologetic during her first court appearance. “The officer in the report said that she was very apologetic and remorseful, and that does go a long way, and he put that in the report, so I think it does help in this situation. Everybody has a story. There’s always a lot of reasons why people do this, and it’s not for us to decide. It’s up to the courts and the judge to look at her case.” said Sgt.
