Nigerian pastors  have been warned by the Ministry of Interior that wedding couples without registration can land them in prison for five years.   The Ministry of Interior issued this warning recently as it reinstated its statutory power to register marriages according to the Marriage Act.   According to Leadershp, a Registrar of Marriages at the Ministry of Interior, Pastor Oladele Temilade disclosed this Thursday in Abuja at the launch of his book, “Companion On Contracting Valid Statutory Marraiges In Nigeria” adding that many pastors have been acting in ignorance.   He said, “When a church contracts marriage, in fact, pastors we need to know, if they should carry out marriage for couples not supported by legal requirements, that pastor will go for five years imprisonment by the laws governing this country but they don’t know.”   “My advice is that intending couples should first go the marriage registry near to them and register even if they want to do i

An Australian man was left with burns when his Samsung Smartphone “exploded” as he slept in his hotel room in Western Australia. Tham Hua, a Victorian said on Wednesday in Melbourne that his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploded in his hotel room, bursting into flames. “My brand new Note 7 exploded this morning while I was still asleep, it was plugged in and charging. “Phone completely fried as Samsung told me this is the first case in Australia,’’ he said. Hua said that it charred the hotel room bed sheet and the carpet when he whacked it down to the floor. He added that it also burnt one of his fingers while doing that too. According to ACP Abayomi Shogunle, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Complaint Response Unit, who posted the feat on his Twitter account, the 27-year-old suspect, Sunday Onjefu, was arrested on Friday, August 19, 2016, at Itedo bus stop, Lekki Phase 1 area. Onjefu, an indigene of Benue State, was arrested by the Maroko Police Division while allegedly dispossessing some ladies of their handbags and other valuables, i the early hours of the day. A small basket of tomato, which sold for N25,000 in May, is now going for N800 in Kaduna. And, no, it is not a joke. It had been all anger and pain for households as the price of tomatoes hit the roof across the country as a result of scarcity caused by tuta absoluta, also known as “tomato ebola”. This affected the crop in most parts of the north-west, notably Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina and Kano states. As a result, the basket prices jumped from the range of N800-N1200 to between N25,000 and N40,000 at the height of the crisis. At the Line Dogo (Rail Line) tomatoes and vegetable market in Kaduna on Saturday, it was a beehive of activities. Buyers could not believe their eyes as tomato prices had crashed to a two-month low. Abass Mai Tumatur, chairman of the tomato sellers, told newsmen it was a “pleasant relief” for everyone as tomato is now available and in large quantities. “Tomato scarcity is nothing new, but it was made worse this year  by the invasion of the moth,”

Ogun State Government has confirmed the adoption of a nine-year-old minor, Master Korede Taiwo, who was chained for weeks by his father for stealing in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government area. The boy, who was rescued by the Nigeria Civil Defence Corp and the Police, has since been admitted into the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta. Speaking during a visit to the boy at the hospital, the governor’s wife, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, expressed satisfaction over the health of the child whom was recuperating. She noted that the state would take up the responsibility and educate the child by sponsoring his education. “I am happy to see him active and responding to treatment and with the way things are, he would soon be discharged from the hospital.
