Read How Female Church Usher Stole General Overseer's N995k in Lagos


Adefunke Afolayan, the 33-year-old female member of a popular Pentecostal church, appeared in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Friday for alleged theft of her General Overseer’s $5,000 (N995,250).
 
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the accused is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
 
Prosecutor Godwin Oriabure told the court that the accused committed the offences with some other still at large in December 2015.
 
Oriabure said the accused used her privilege as a worker in the church to gain access to where the money was kept and stole it.
 
However, Afolayan pleaded not guilty to the charge.
 
Her lawyer, Makolo Anthony, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
 
The Magistrate, E.A Johnson, granted bail to the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.
 
Johnson said the surety must be gainfully employed and adjourned the case till July 1 for the mention.
