The police in Benin have arrested a 57-year-old man, Sunday Osemwekhe, for allegedly killing his half-brother with machete over a local soup called owoh. The suspect reportedly committed the crime at Evboesi community in Orhionmwon Local Government area of the state. The incident happened during an argument with the victim over owoh soup, a local a delicacy for eating yam, plantain and wheat peculiar to the people of Edo State. Osemwekhe, who confessed to the crime when he was paraded with 80 other suspects by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, said the deceased took from his owoh soup without his permission. The argument reportedly degenerated into fracas, following which he cut off the victim’s hand with a machete. The victim allegedly died a few days after from injuries he sustained from the attack. Adebanjo disclosed that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

A serious fire outbreak has occurred at Emmadorc Petroleum Station in Okitipupa area of Ondo State, an eyewitness has told Saharareporters. The petroleum station is located at the main round about of the town, the eyewitness added. “The Fire is very heavy and I can’t tell now if anyone was inside the station but all houses near the station have been consumed. A woman is crying heavily here”, a source told our correspondent on phone. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured a 63-years jail time for a fraudster, Benjamin Segun Bright, for stealing the sum of N4,994,000 from investors whom he had deceived into believing he would invest such monies in his purported companies, only to pocket the money. Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, passed the huge sentence on Bright, without option of fine. The EFCC said the convict was arraigned on July 10, 2012, on a 21-count charge of stealing and obtaining by tricks. The suspect, Peter Elaiho is said to have had forceful sexual intercourse with the child at Ogida quarters in the Egor local government area of the state. City officials told the family their decision was based on fears over the outbreak of Ebola overseas, according to a 16-page suit filed by the girl's father Tuesday in U.S. District Court.
